Joint Effort of Plastics Industry and University for the Future Creation at CHINAPLAS 2012

What will the future automobile be like? Will factors like energy saving, eco-friendliness, advance safety level overpower the routine selection criteria such as speed or design?

According to industry report, plastics is much lighter than steel and other vehicle materials and its ability to absorb energy is good to offer buffering effect during collision. Such feature turns plastics to be a crucial automotive parts and an ideal substitution of steel. Undoubtedly, industrial plastics can fit well into the advance development of the automotive industry, to pursue with the emphasis of energy saving, environmental friendliness and enhance safety. It is obvious that the plastics usage in the making of automotive is under rapid growth and such trend is expected to continue in the coming years.

The use of plastics in the automotive industry in developed countries accounted for 7% of total consumption and is expected to reach 10-11% soon. Based on this upward trend, it is believed that the ideal scenario of producing the 100% plastics-made automobile will turn into reality in near future.

The organizer of CHINAPLAS, Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, strives to contribute to the plastics and rubber industries, to ride on its effective communication platform to promote sustainable properties of plastics and rubber in different applications, and to cultivate, develop and promote the forward-looking "Green" concept. Through the collaboration between students of University, experts from the automotive and the plastics/rubber industries, a concurrent event named "Future Zone" will be held during show period. The concurrent event is composed of two parts, the first part named "Nurturing Our Future" program combines plastics/rubber applications, technology and innovation that leads to a brand new design of a "Future Car". The second part is called "Premium Design Gallery" which will showcase a series of new, unique design of various plastic-made end products.

Ms Ada Leung, Assistant General Manager of Adsale stated that this program is to promote cooperation between the commercial and academic field in terms of three aspects: Application, Technology, Innovation - Theory. It is exciting to see the project being kicked off and it is full of expectation to wait for the outcome of the combination of the industry's strengths in plastics/rubber applications, the innovative spirit and creativity of students. A bonus credit if it arouses public attention on the importance of eco-friendly concept in our future living.

This activity has received widespread recognition and support. Supporting partners and co-organizing units include East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Society of Plastics Industry, ASSOCOMAPLAST - Italian Plastics & Rubber Processing Machinery and Moulds Manufacturers' Association, Shanghai Automotive Trade Association. In addition, the organizer has invited Mr. Shuwen Liu, Senior Engineer of Shanghai GM/Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center Co., Ltd as the consultant of the event. What's more, the organizer is glad to announce that Demag Plastics Group will be the Platinum Sponsor of this event.

The organizer indicated that the whole design, selection and production process of the "Future Car" will last for five months. Up to now, there are 15 groups of students submitting application for this competition. The winning entry will be selected by a judging panel comprising experts in the plastics and automotive industry, the representatives of university and the organizer. The major selection criteria stresses on the degree of eco-friendliness, the extent on improving our future living with high level of creativity. The winning entry will be made as a model for display at the "Future Zone" at the fairground of CHINAPLAS 2012.

"Premium Design Gallery" will showcase the stunning local and overseas new products at CHINAPLAS 2012 onsite. Owing to the importance of product design and the significance of design that directs the early stage of the whole production process, exhibitors will invite their clients to display products which are brand new to the market, with major parts made of plastics/rubber that are environmental friendly and can better the quality of our living. The display items have to fall into categories of future transportation vehicle, appliances, architecture and packaging, with written description putting next to the product to elaborate its special features and outstanding application concept to the visitors. The organizer is now actively promoting the event and the recruitment of entries is underway, the creative products will be uploaded to CHINAPLAS official website in February 2012.

CHINAPLAS 2012 will be held during Apr 18 - 21, 2012 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre, PR China. Staging its 26th edition, CHINAPLAS 2012 will reach an exhibition area of 200,000 sqm and occupy all 17 exhibition halls and with halls extending to the Central Square. More than 2,600 exhibitors from 35 countries and regions and over 100,000 visitors from 140 countries will get together in this vast professional plastics and rubber event.

Spotlight on the Stage of CHINAPLAS 2012 First-hand News on Theme Zone and Pavilion

Following the outstanding and impressive results gained from the Bioplastics & Degradable Plastics Zone and Rubber Machinery & Equipment Zone in CHINAPLAS 2011, the show organizer will continue to cradle these two zones in the 26th International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries (CHINAPLAS 2012), which will be held on April 18-21, 2012 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre, PR China. Another important return is the Korean Pavilion, which breaks the record of the number of pavilions kept for years to 12.

The newly-named Bioplastics Zone will be the second year established in CHINAPLAS 2012, expecting more than 40% increase in the area. With the growing global concern on green manufacturing, bioplastics is inevitably the focus in the plastics industry, with enormous potential in the market. As the international platform for advanced technology in the plastics and rubber industries, CHINAPLAS 2012 will introduce the world’s leading bioplastics suppliers and their products like PLA, PHA, PBS, PPC, PCL, PVA, TPS, PA and PTT. The renowned exhibitors include Cardia, Danisco, Ecomann, Esun, Hisun, Kingfa, Mirel Plastics, NatureWorks, Nuvia, etc.

Highlighting advanced technology and latest development on bioplastics, the 4th International Conference on Bioplastics and the Applications will be held concurrently with CHINAPLAS 2012. Like the last edition held in 2011, speakers from the leading bioplastics suppliers will be invited. Overseas and Chinese plastics associations will continue to support the conference.

As the relaunch of Rubber Machinery & Equipment Zone in 2011 received overwhelming response, the organizer will continue this zone next year. It is expected the size of the zone will be doubled in 2012. Numerous exhibitors have confirmed their participation, such as Tung Yu, Desma, Yang Ming, Double Elephant, Hengwei, Ningbo Chap, Shanghai Deren, Yuyao Huacheng, etc. Exhibits at the zone will include rubber machineries, rubber processing equipment, testing equipment, die & mould for products like rubber conveyor belt, rubber hose, medical rubber products, daily rubber products, rubber sealing products, automotive rubber products, etc. A Rubber Suppliers Guide will be tailor-made for visitors to facilitate their search.

Another highlight of the show is the return of Korean Pavilion, contributing the breakthrough of the number of pavilions to 12. The pavilion last appeared in CHINAPLAS 2009. With the tremendous support of Korea Petrochemical Industry Association, Korean Pavilion will again demonstrate its presence in CHINAPLAS next year and numerous Korean companies will showcase their flagship products. In the first half year of 2011, Korea is one of the top 10 importing countries / regions of plastics machines for China. The show organizer believes that the return of Korean Pavilion will be welcomed by the visitors.
