Introduction
A 180-degree pneumatic rotary actuator is a device that converts compressed air into rotational motion. This specific actuator type operates through a 180-degree rotation and is commonly used in applications requiring limited angular movement, typically for on/off valve control or simple positioning tasks. The combination of pneumatic power with rotary motion offers reliability, precision, and efficiency, making it a preferred choice in various industrial applications.
Working Principle
The working principle of a pneumatic rotary actuator involves the application of compressed air into the actuator's chambers. The actuator consists of a piston within a cylinder that moves upon receiving air pressure. The rotation occurs because of the design of the actuator, where the piston connects to a shaft that rotates as the piston moves.
In a 180-degree actuator, the design limits the rotation to 180 degrees, offering precise control for applications like valve turning or gate operation. Typically, the air pressure is applied to one side of the piston, forcing it to rotate the shaft in one direction. When the air pressure is switched or released, a return spring or a secondary air pressure chamber reverses the motion, completing the 180-degree rotation.
