CHINAPLAS 2009 Unveiled Opportunities for Almost 70,000 Visitors
Joined Hands with the Industry to Combat Economic Crisis

Despite the global economic crisis, swine flu outbreak and the rainy weather in Guangzhou throughout the show period, CHINAPLAS 2009 (The 23rd International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries), held from May 18-21, 2009 at China Import and Export Fair Pazhou Complex, Guangzhou, PR China, was well attended by 11 country / regional pavilions, 1,840 exhibitors and about 70,000 buyers from all around the world. The strong participation of both exhibitors and buyers demonstrated not only the promising outlook for China’s plastics and rubber industries, but also the continuing growth of the China’s economy.

Internationally Recognized Plastics and Rubber Show
The opening ceremony of CHINAPLAS 2009 was officiated by Mr Bu Zhengfa, President of China National Light Industry Council, Mr Liao Zhengpin, President of China Plastics Processing Industry Association (CPPIA), Mr Thorsten Kuehmann, Secretary General of European Committee of Machinery Manufacturers for the Plastics and Rubber Industries (EUROMAP), Mr Stanley Chu, Chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, and Mr Tony Fung, CEO of Messe Duesseldorf China Ltd.

Mr Liao Zhengpin of CPPIA, Co-organizer of CHINAPLAS, highly recognized CHINAPLAS 2009 as a global platform for the industry to discuss international business and to exchange technology. At the same time, it also offered plastics enterprises a high quality stage to build up their famous brands, promote their technology, create innovative solutions and to take part in the competition in the international market.

Occupying an exhibition area of 140,000sqm, CHINAPLAS 2009 showcased new products and solutions as well as over 1,800 sets of machines presented by 11 country / regional pavilions from Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, PR China, Taiwan Province, UK and USA, and 1,840 exhibitors from 35 countries and regions.

Mr Stanley Chu of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, Organizer of CHINAPLAS, said, “The unfavorable external factors did bring us a lot of challenges and difficulties in the past few months. However, with staunch support from many influential trade associations and our working team’s intensive promotion efforts, the show’s scale is 30% larger than the area of CHINAPLAS 2007 held in Guangzhou while the number of visitors also met our expectation, recording 69,298 visitors from 135 countries and regions. In addition, we received nearly 80 overseas and Chinese buyer groups from the sectors of automotive, electronics and electrical appliances, packaging, building and construction, agricultural film, toy, molding, food, etc. Famous enterprises, such as Midea, BYD, Nike, GREE, Decro Package Films, etc, also took their initiative in organizing buying missions to the show.”

Overwhelming Responses from Overseas Buyers
As Asia’s No.1 and the world’s No.3 plastics and rubber show, CHINAPLAS 2009’s mega show scale together with its well mixture of international and domestic exhibits have captured the attention of 11,340 overseas buyers, accounting for 16.4% of total visitors. Among them, 64.6% came from Asia, 9% and 8% came from Middle East and Europe respectively and the remaining were from American, Africa and Oceania.

Overseas buyer groups from Brazil, Egypt, France, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, The Philippines, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam were organized to attend the show, with tremendous support from a number of trade associations and chambers. The enthusiastic responses from overseas buyers at CHINAPLAS 2009 underlined the show’s status as an international trade fair and sourcing platform for chemicals and raw materials as well as plastics and rubber machines. To cater for the needs of overseas visitors, the Chinese Export Machinery and Materials Hall was set up with strong presence of local market leaders, such as Changzhou Hengli, Dongfeng Machine, Qingdao Laminate, Ruian City Guangda, Ruian Fengming, Wenzhou Kingpak, Zhangjiagang City Yili, Zhejiang Jianda, etc.

Government Policies Boost Domestic Demand for Materials and Machines
As for visitors from Mainland China, the 4-trilion-yuan stimulus plan, industry rejuvenation plans together with the value-added tax (VAT) reform have triggered local enterprises’ strong demand for raw materials as well as machines. At CHINAPLAS 2009, 26.4% of visitors came from Guangzhou, 22.6% came from Southern China other than Guangzhou, 22.5% was from Eastern China, 12.1% was from Northern and Central China. Mr Chu added, “The solid foundation of China's plastics and rubber industries together with the support of government policies have reinforced the confidence of the industries under the tough times. At the fairground, many enterprises are looking for new equipment to enhance their productivity and sharpen their competitiveness, so as to prepare for the economic recovery. “

“When there is crisis, there is opportunity. We visit CHINAPLAS 2009 with an objective to master the development trend of the industry under the gloomy economic situation. In addition, we can also know how other countries respond to the challenges,“ said Mr Zheng Xiaopeng, Secretary of Suzhou Plastics and Chemicals Industry Association at CHINAPLAS 2009.

Each year, Wenzhou Plastics Industry Association organizes a buyer group to CHINAPLAS. According to Mr Song Yunhe, Vice President of the association, CHINAPLAS offered Wenzhou enterprises the most updated market news in the world and it gathered most of the market leaders in the field of chemicals and additives. The first plastic film blowing, printing and bag making production line was introduced to Wenzhou in 1985. Now, the city has over 30 sets of plastics processing equipment and all of them were bought from the exhibitors of CHINAPLAS.

Professional Concurrent Events Captured Trade Buyers’ Attention
To enrich the show’s content, “Cross-Strait Plastics Industry Summit 2009” was held on May 17 and it attracted over 200 attendees. Besides, it was reported that over 120 attendees participated in another concurrent event, namely “Briefing on Investment Opportunities in Post-earthquake Reconstruction and Suppliers Sourcing of Sichuan Province” and Forum on Investment in the "City of Plastic Building Materials Industry in China". All these demonstrated the professionalism of the show and created exceptional networking opportunities with industry experts and leaders.
