Specifications

Bi lau (米栳or米荖)(Taiwanese: bí láu) is a traditional Taiwanese sweet just like mua lau (麻栳or麻荖,rice puff with sesame). It is made of taro flour and glutinous rice flour. After kneaded dough ferments and expands after being deep fried, it will be coated with maltose and bi phang (米香, poprice). Bi phang is like popcorn but is made of rice, which is cooked first and then deep fried. It gives bi láu a different texture and flavor from mua lau.
